The present book primarily focuses on the literature part of the syllabus as prescribed by Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shiksha Seva Chayan Board for recruitment exam of TGT-English. Previously held two exam papers of TGT English have been comprehensively explained detailing all the options and giving the peripheral information. Two model papers have also been incorporated for the aspirants to evaluate their understanding. The book particularly deals with approximately four hundred and fifty literary terms, which have been categorised genre-wise rather than arranged all of them alphabetically. Every genre of literature has all the related terms all at one place so that the aspirants develop a thorough understanding of them. Major genres of literature have been extensively explained in a simplified manner detailing with the sub-genres simultaneously. The book presents the exam-oriented biographical information of the prescribed authors in a synchronised and systematized way. The given factual information has been verified in different resource books. Detailed explanatory notes have been given for all the individual works of the authors prescribed. Various other aspects of the authors’ literary output related to the texts have also been explained in this book. Flowcharts of various interrelated information have also been used where it was deemed necessary for the understanding of the aspirants. The book also presents about five hundred quotations on and of the authors with complete information, such as the source, the location, the speaker, and the addressee (if any). Various lesser known facts regarding the works of the authors have also been comprehensively detailed keeping in mind the type and standard of the questions asked previously. Finally the book has incorporated two full-length model papers, which will provide the aspirants a close peep into the standard of the expected questions in forthcoming exams.


Dr Gajendra Dutt Sharma is an Assistant Professor of English, at Bareilly College, Bareilly, affiliated to MJP Rohilkhand University, Bareilly. He secured 6th rank in the recruitment exam (Advt. No. 47) conducted by UPHESC. He was awarded PhD in English in 2013, and qualified NET in 2014. He also qualified various central and state level recruitment exams, such as UP-TGT and PGT (2013), UP-TGT and PGT (2015) with final selection-4th rank, NVS-PGT (2015) final selection, and Lecturer  DIET  screening  exam  conducted by UPPSC. In addition to that, he qualified the screening exam of Assistant Professor in GDC conducted by UPPSC, and recruitment exams of Assistant Professor conducted by Haryana Public Service Commission, and Madhya Pradesh Public Service Commission respectively. He is also running a YouTube channel called "ENGLIT", which has more than 18,000 subscribers and more than 140 videos covering various topics of grammar and English literature. Ocean of Literature is his debut book.
